A NEW salon in Amersham is set to hold a 'HAIRraising' event on its opening day in aid of charity.
Hob Salons, which launches on Wednesday (24/3) at 34-36 Sycamore Road, is supporting an appeal which encourages the hairdressing community to join forces to help raise £1million for a new operating theatre at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Staff at the salon will be giving up a day's pay to provide some cuts, styles and colourings for half price with all of the proceeds being donated to the charity.

THE first of a series of fundraising fairs was held in Amersham last weekend in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation is urging people from the area to make a splash to back the cause at The Chiltern Pools in Amersham-on-the-Hill.
The charity says the event has a challenge to suit everyone with swimmers pledging to complete up to 5K as an individual or as a team with their friends and family. It is set to begin at the pool in April.

The campaign aims to raise reach £1 million target with the help of its members across Great Britain and Ireland.
The clubs have decked out the former Post Office in Sycamore Road, Amersham-on-the-Hill, at the junction with Hill Avenue, and an empty shop in The Broadway, Chesham, with posters and statistics about the devastating effects of the disease which continues to exist in parts of Asia and Africa.

RESIDENTS in Amersham could face more than a year of disruption as a project to replace £2million worth of gas pipes gets underway.
National Grid has started two major mains replacement programmes in Amersham, which will involve upgrading 14.2km of old iron mains with new, hard-wearing plastic pipes in Woodside Road and residential streets to the north of the town.
Work started in Roundwood Road and Grove Road on February 8.

THE first farmer's market of the new year in Little Chalfont is set to take place in Snells Wood car park in Cokes Lane on tomorrow (9/1).
It is due to be selling food sourced from the area between 9am and 1pm.
