Young chef faces the heat in the kitchen

A HUNT to find the next Nigella Lawson or Jamie Oliver tested the culinary skills of young people on the weekend.
A cooking competition challenging 11-18-year-olds took place at Chesham Park Community College on Saturday.
Chief judge Adam Whitlock, head chef at Gilbey's in Amersham Old Town selected six contestants to become masterchefs at the heat organised by Pat Armstrong from The Rotary Club of Amersham.

Laurel Turton and Rebecca Lewts pupils at the Misbourne School were chosen to take part, along with Jamie Hollander of Dr Challoner's Grammar School, and Dr Challoner's High School pupils Beth Chater, Jenna Reid and Ruby Stewart-Liberty.
Run in conjunction the Rotary Clubs of Amersham, Chesham and Great Missenden, the annual contest aims to develop creativity in the kitchen.
Ruby Stewart-Liberty triumphed on the day with her winning menu of Harissa marinated chicken with red grapefruit salad and brown rice, followed by a dessert of strawberry fool with French Madeleine's and summer berries.
The GCSE food technology student said: "I was excited and quite nervous. I had never done anything like it before. It was a lot of pressure but a lot of fun. I wanted to do something interesting and healthy at the same times so I chose a middle eastern theme and pudding was a bit more indulgent."
Ruby will go through to the district round of the competition, which will be held in Aylesbury on February 27 and will be in with a chance to visit the olive fields of Tuscany and Jamie Oliver's 15 restaurant if she wins the national round.
She was awarded £25 for the cost of ingredients and a Jamie Oliver DVD. Ruby added she admires the work of the celebrity chef and that of Heston Blumethal - famous for his concoctions of snail porridge and eggs and bacon ice cream - but will not be emulating the latter's unusual style.
