Public to have their say on proposed housing

THE PUBLIC is set to be asked for its views on controversial plans to build almost 3,000 homes in the Chiltern District - including 600 in Amersham.
Householders should have their say on a 'Draft Core Strategy document', which addresses government demands for extra housing in the south east, a Chiltern District Council committee is due to recommend.
The imposed targets require CDC to find sites for 2,900 new homes to be built in the district by 2026.

Changes to the allocation of house numbers have been made to its draft report since it was released last June.
In Little Chalfont, Donkey Field off Burtons Lane was reduced from being the site for a planned 121 dwellings, down to a proposed 60 new homes. Other areas in the village earmarked for housing include land between Loudhams Wood Lane and Village Way and a site in White Lion Road.
In Amersham 100 homes have already been built towards the target and 140 have received planning permission. Possible sites for development in the town have been named as the former Raans School playing field, Quarrendon Road, land east of Lincoln Park, land behind Hundred Acres Lane and at First Avenue/London Road West.
Some amenity groups have questioned the suitability of locations. The Chiltern Society's planning convener Colin Jones said: "The main problem according to The Chiltern Society is the local population voted for the housing to be located in Amersham, Greater Amersham, Chesham and Chalfont St Peter. In our view it would be better if it was spread throughout the district.
"It's very important that the building that's going to take place does not lead to over development or to intensive development in the towns."
In the villages, where development is set to be more spread out, an outstanding 78 homes are needed for Chalfont St Giles, with Great Missenden, Prestwood and Heath End having an extra 84 planned between them. Holmer Green is set to have another 61 and Chesham Bois an additional 36. Around a third of the houses proposed for the twenty-year period the plan accounts for, have already been built or have planning permission in place.
The issue is set to be discussed by Chiltern District Council's Cabinet on Tuesday.

Given that changes have already been made to this document, does that not suggest the housing needs will change at some point in 16 years time?
We need to house the future generation - I am 25 and I was born in Chesham and want to live in this area for as long as possible - but we have to preserve the character of the area.
I feel sorry for the councillors who have to figure out where to fit these houses because no-where will be popular.

I Agree with the above. The problem is people cant afford to live in the town they grew up in (Amersham) quite simply it's a BIG problem. In our area everyone is OLD? What happens when they have no people to look after them? They sit in houses they've owned for years complaining about house prices falling, when in fact THEY NEED TO! if you earn £25,000 where can you live near here?? NO WHERE? the fact is my friends dont live here, i can only just afford it what about future kids?! I BELIEVE that SOME GREENBELT needs to be released, not masses, nor concreating over our countryside, but a few areas, build some homes and allow local people the chance to buy them, share equity or something... BUT keeping this restraint is going to destroy the community, the problem is the OLD people don't understand this, why becuase they are old and set in their ways... but answer me this, when you're too old to cope, and you know longer live in your large house and the utilities to manager it are too expensive, what then?? and what about your children? where are they? abroad? miles away?
