Online appeal for police volunteers

POLICE have launched a Facebook page to encourage people to become a Special Constable.
The page on the social networking site is part of a campaign to recruit more of the volunteer police officers and will be linked to the main Thames Valley Police page.
The group will offer those thinking of taking up the position a chance to ask questions, get an insight into the role and information about how to join.

Thames Valley Police Special Constabulary chief officer Nigel Woodley said: "If you really want your New Year's resolution to make a difference then becoming a volunteer police officer is the perfect solution. Special Constables have full police powers and support neighbourhood and reactive policing teams throughout the force.
"The work can be varied. On one shift, you may be on the beat, talking to or addressing the concerns of young people in your local community. On another, you may be responding to emergency calls or dealing with a road traffic collision. Full training and support to new recruits is given. In return, we expect you to work for a minimum of 18 hours a month."
He added that new recruits join for a number of reasons such as to improve their life skills, as a stepping stone into a career as a police officer or just to help the community they live in.
To find the page, go into Facebook and search for the Thames Valley Police Special Constabulary page.
