Charity radio station set to give festive broadcast
A CHARITY radio station will take to the airwaves this Christmas to try to raise funds for an African school for orphaned children.
Radio Africa will broadcast from Café Africa, in Chesham Road, Amersham, for 48 hours between midday December 22 to midday on Christmas Eve. It aims to raise money for African Link - a locally-run charity helping poor and vulnerable African Children.
.
Organiser Duncan Dyason, who last year raised £18,000 with a month of round-the-clock broadcasting, said: "I think it is going to be a really fun event. We thought we would put it in the heart of the community - right in the middle of things. It'll be a great opportunity for people to drop in and say hi."
Popular DJs, including youngsters as young as 12-years-old, from the Radio Christmas project last year will make a return to present their shows with the aim of raising £5,000, and some mystery celebrities have been invited.
He said: "It will be a real festive mix of music, chat and interviews. The funds will go towards the running cost of the school and money will hopefully go towards helping the staff and volunteers. 100 per cent of all donations will go directly to the children."
"We want it to be a community-based project which celebrates the good and helps people as well."
Listeners will be able to tune-in from Chesham, Amersham, Little Chalfont, the Chalfonts and Chorleywood on 87.7FM.
Mr Dyason added the radio station has some late-night slots still available to people interested in taking to the airwaves for the cause.
