Former war correspondent to speak about life on the frontline
FORMER war reporter Kate Adie OBE is set to visit Amersham-on-the-Hill to talk about her experiences dodging bullets on the frontline.
The ex-BBC chief news correspondent will speak about her risky assignments, which she has compiled in her book Into Danger.
The event takes place at St Michael's and All Angels Parish Church in Sycamore Road on November 12 and is in aid of Amersham-based charity Friends of the Belarussian Children's Hospice UK - of which she is a patron.
Among the events the correspondent, 64, reported on include the London Iranian Embassy siege in 1980, the American bombing of Tripoli in 1986, the Lockerbie bombing of 1988, the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 where she sustained a gunshot wound to the elbow while doing so, and on the Gulf War and numerous conflicts around the world.
Waterstones will be selling her book and Kate will be signing copies.
Refreshments will be available provided by Amersham-based Café Africa.
Tickets cost £15 and are available from the Waterstones branch in Sycamore Road or by calling 01494 727409.
