One of 11 stolen donkeys found alive and well
ONE of the 11 donkeys stolen from a farm near Chalfont St Giles has been recovered.
The male donkey was found in good condition in a field in the home counties yesterday morning and was reunited with his elderly owner yesterday afternoon.
The donkey, named Daryl, was found by a World Horse welfare officer who had entered the field to do a routine inspection of horses.
He became suspicious when he noticed three donkeys were also in the field, and called police. It is believe the other two donkeys may also have been stolen.
Helen Evans of Thames Valley Horse Watch said Daryl's owner, who is frail, was "absolutely delighted" to be reunited with him.
She said: "He is in good condition, considering he has had quite a stressful experience."
But she revealed that one of the female donkeys taken is only ten weeks old. She said: "We are very worried about her."
Thieves took 11 donkeys from the farm , between Chalfont St Giles and Amersham, late on Friday or during the early hours of Saturday in a vehicle - possibly a horse box or a van.
Police believe they are destined for Ireland or the continent and if that happens they will be sold either for meat, or as pets for farm animals.
They are not releasing the exact location of the farm to protect the owner.
