Illegal waste dumper fined £2,000

AN illegal waste dumper will have to pay out more than £2,000 after being spotted dumping rubbish in historic Amersham Old Town.
Essex man Mark John Bryan, 31, of Castle Street, Grays, pleaded guilty and was convicted or an offence of illegally dumping household waste.

Aylesbury Magistrates Court heard Bryan dumped a plastic bucket, wood, cloths, plaster, coving and piping from the rear of his car in High Street on the morning of March 19, 2009.
The offence took place in full view of motorists and one driver took down his registration number and reported him.
He admitted the offence in a police interview and said he had gone to Amersham with a work colleague in his boss' car and had taken waste from his house with him. He decided to dump the waste before returning home, admitting it was stupidity and laziness.
He was fined £1,000, ordered to pay £1,095 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge at the hearing on August 18.
The case was prosecuted by Buckinghamshire County Council on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire.
David Smedley, lead technical officer for the partnership, said: "I am pleased to see yet another tough sentence passed down by the magistrates for this completely unnecessary crime.
"I am sure that this individual, while paying his significant fine and costs, will reflect on his actions. Similarly I hope that those who are thinking of fly tipping in Buckinghamshire in the future imagine how they would cope with paying over £2,000 and receiving a criminal record. How many more people do we need to convict before it is realised that we do not tolerate fly tipping in this county?"
He added his thanks to the witness who reported the incident.
The Waste Partnership launched the "Illegal Dumping Costs" campaign in November 2003 to combat illegal dumping and has since secured 141 convictions.
