AN ASPIRING singer and songwriter is a step closer to her dream of stardom after being picked for the regional finals of a talent competition.
Lauren Rozwadowski, 22, of Chalfont Avenue, Little Chalfont, hopes national contest Open Mic UK 2009, will pave the way to a recording deal.

GIRLS at Dr Challoner's High School were jumping for joy as they discovered the outcome of their efforts in their GCSEs.
A flawless 100 per cent of the pupils scooped at least five A* to C grades at the single-sex grammar school. A total of 78.59 per cent of grades were A* or A with nine girls achieving all A* grades at the Cokes Lane School, in Little Chalfont.

PUPILS at Dr Challoner's Grammar School had a reason to celebrate as they opened their GCSE envelopes. A total of 100 per cent of the group of 187 achieved at least five A* to C grades, including core subjects maths and English.
Fifty six lucky students achieved a clean sweep of A* and A grades in all their GCSEs.
Three students - Kabir Babber, of Little Chalfont, Thomas Cunningham of Gerrards Cross, and Timothy Davies of Great Missenden, scooped thirteen A* grades each.

POLICE have warned residents of Chesham and Amersham about a group of pickpockets stealing purses in the towns.
The group, which police believe may include children, have a committed a number of offences in the past month striking between 11am and 2pm at supermarkets and small shops, including charities.

AMERSHAM & Wycombe College plans for expansion have been dealt a bodyblow after a £100m bid was refused by the Government.
The college, which has campuses in Stanley Hill, Amersham, and Lycrome Road, Chesham, as well as in Flackwell Heath, near High Wycombe, wanted to rebuild its Amersham Campus by 2013 to install modern facilities for its 2,000 full-time and 5,000 part-time students.

CHILTERN District Council spent more than £5,000 of taxpayers money investigating two Amersham Town Councillors over controversial plans to introduce paid-for parking in the Old Town.
Martin King, who was mayor of the town last year, and Councillor Eamonn Flynn were investigated by the council's Standards Committee following complaints from rival councillors over claims they would have a prejudicial interest in the issue which has sparked fury among motorists.

FRIENDS of Little Chalfont Library are holding a quiz night to raise running costs for the village's community library, which does not receive local authority funding.

A PURSE was stolen from a handbag after two men called at an address in Amersham Road, Little Chalfont at 1pm on Monday.
The pair asked if they could take away metal left in the driveway by builders and when the householder went to speak to the builders, the front door was left ajar. On the victim's return the purse was missing and the men had gone. It was later found in Nightingales Lane, without cash.

AN illegal waste dumper will have to pay out more than £2,000 after being spotted dumping rubbish in historic Amersham Old Town.
Essex man Mark John Bryan, 31, of Castle Street, Grays, pleaded guilty and was convicted or an offence of illegally dumping household waste.
