Your views to be asked again on paying to park

CONTROVERSIAL fee-paying parking proposals in Amersham Old Town are set to come into force early next year if a final decision on the long-running saga gives the plans approval.
The scheme, if given the thumbs up, would involve drivers being charged to park in areas which are currently unrestricted and will be introduced if there are not major objections raised following the completion of another consultation with residents and businesses later this year.

Buckinghamshire County Council has announced it is set to hold exhibitions, open to members of the public, in September where residents will be asked for their views on 'slightly amended plans'.
They will also be able to question parking officials, however there will be no council public meetings on the subject, according to John Charlton, the council's parking manager for strategy.
Mr Charlton said: "We advertised the proposals and wrote to residents earlier on this year and asked for comments on the parking proposals in the Old Town. Unfortunately we received a lot of comments from local residents and businesses who didn't like the proposals and didn't think they were needed.
"There were some issues residents picked up for us such as parking bays across some people's driveways. The businesses were most concerned about where their staff were going to park. We have to make sure we have the correct balance, and to also provide space for visitors to the area. At the exhibitions we will present evidence demonstrating the changes are needed."
Earlier this year concerned residents, businesses and visitors to the area complained about the plans to introduce permit spaces and pay-and-display machines in the historic market town.
A petition containing more than 400 names was handed in to the County Council's offices in the Spring demanding a re-think. The plans were put on hold in April because of what the council called 'misinformation' in the area.
Sarah-Jane Axelby, 34, a mother-of-one of Whielden Street, campaigned against the plans. She said: "We're just trying to keep an open mind as to the new plans they are going to come up with. It might be they come up with some magic scheme which works for everybody. I think it's an issue people feel very passionate about so we will make sure people have their say."
A survey has now been completed and another is underway showing traffic during a working week and during school holidays respectively, to examine the use of spaces and turn-around of vehicles, Mr Charlton added.
Following an eight-week consultation, due to get underway in September, a decision will be taken by Val Letheran, the county council's cabinet member for transportation.
