The long crocodile walk

Posted by Graham Spence on Apr 14, 09 04:08 PM in People

TWO hundred children turned out in crocodile-themed fancy dress to promote walking to school.

Pupils of St Mary's Church of England Primary School, Amersham, and their parents took part in its longest ever 'crocodile walk'.

Last Thursday's walk was part of a scheme by Buckinghamshire
County Council, which offers children an opportunity for a healthy start to their day with a safe walk to school.

The procession through Amersham was led by deputy headteacher Duncan Gauld, dressed in a furry green crocodile suit.

Chairman of the walk to school committee, Dawn Lammin, was with her six-year-old son Charlie.

She said: "Everyone had to dress as a crocodile and we walked all the way through the Old Town and completely stopped all the traffic. It was a great community event.

"I thought we would get about 50 but out of a school of 312, we had 200."

We'd like to hear from you.
