Museum set to open to public

Posted by Graham Spence on Apr 3, 09 04:24 PM in Local Authority

Amersham Museum will open its doors to the general public in time for Easter.

Chairman Anthony Del Tufo has announced the museum's programme for the summer months, with expectations high that this season will yield a higher-than-ever number of people visiting the facility on the High Street in the Old Town.

Of particular note this year will be a Tudor theme and exhibitions celebrating the 1950s and 1960s, called the rock and roll years.

Mr del Tufo said the museum would officially open on Easter Saturday, April 11, from 2pm. It will remain open every Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holiday Monday, and then from the middle of May it will be open every Wednesday and Thursday from 2pm to 4.30pm.

"We will concentrate on things Tudor," said Mr Del Tufo. "We have a

model of a woman in Tudor costume and we will be able to tell visitors how they ate, and things like that."

An array of old toys will also doubtless interest visitors to the museum this summer. "There was a company called Amersham Toys which was based in Waterside in Chesham.

"We acquired some of their toys which will be on display in the museum. People like to see old toys, and they provide an interesting talking point."

Part-time curator Jane Bowen will be busily employed during the summer. Of particular note is the development of the museum's prize-winning herb garden, which attracts many visitors who enjoy sampling picnics in the garden during the summer months.

"Our ambition is to be the best small museum in Bucks," said Mr Del Tufo. "We want to get people to learn something about their local history." [25a0] Further details: 01494 723 700 or see www.amershammuseum.org.
