Amersham station hit by bike thieves

Posted by Greg Burns on Mar 18, 09 09:49 AM in People

Amersham and Chesham tube stations are being targeted by thieves stealing bikes.
Two men stole a bike from Amersham station around 2.50pm on Friday, March 3. A short while later, two men matching the same descriptions were seen taking a bike from Chesham station around 4.20pm.

The first man is described as white, around 5 foot 8 with short dark hair. The second man is described as white, around 6 foot with blonde/brown hair. Both are thought to be aged between 17 and 20-years-old. Officers believe one of the men was also present when two other cycles were stolen at Amersham on February 17 and on November 4 last year and are now linking the four thefts.
PC Tim Barnes, investigating officer from British Transport Police, said: "I'd like to hear from anyone who has any information about the thefts or who may have seen any suspicious activity at either station. "Unfortunately cycles are a popular target for thieves but there are several steps people can take to ensure their bikes are adequately marked and secured to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of bike theft.
"The best thing to remember is to register your bike and also to ensure a solid lock is used to secure it. If a bike is adequately marked, it makes it much easier to identify and therefore reduces its desirability to thieves." PC Barnes said it was also important for any passengers who saw people loitering or acting suspiciously around cycle racks to immediately notify Tube staff or contact police.
Anyone with any information about the incidents should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B4 of 17/03/09 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

We'd like to hear from you.
