Amersham Library bite back at credit crunch

Posted by Greg Burns on Feb 25, 09 02:12 PM in People

Am-Library.jpgStaff at Amersham Library have unearthed a recession-busting strategy to put paid to the credit crunch.
At a time when unemployment is on the rise, even in picturesque Bucks, the library in Amersham is being championed as the in place, where a myriad of activities take place.
Spokeswoman Glenys Brown launched the initiative on Friday, February 20 - presenting a roadshow offering an insight into just what is on offer at Chiltern Avenue.

"It is much cheaper to borrow books than to buy them and ditto with dvd's and magazines, " said Mrs Brown. "Customers can learn a language by hiring tapes and books and for those travelling it is cheaper to use our country guides than to visit Waterstones."
The senior librarian continued: "People can start their very own book clubs and use our facilities for gatherings rather than other places.
"There are story times for children of all ages. The library is the ideal place to be and we have a very dedicated staff ready, whilling, and able to assist with a whole range of questions.
"We are flexible too and we are prepared to consider anything reasonable to be relevant and vital at this time of financial stringency.
"In today's climate people are rightly looking to be sensible and to do things in a far more prudent way. Pop along to the library and we will help."

We'd like to hear from you.

Amersham Library is very poorly or un-ventilated.

General public: Try this facility any afternoon, from October to March.

Whatever Spokeswoman Mrs Brown says,[as above], this parlous Bucks County Council 1960s erection is, in 2009, a heritage health hazard in Amersham for anyone with even moderate breathing difficulties, before they go in.
