My Amersham: Raymond Norris

Posted by Greg Burns on Dec 22, 08 10:46 AM in People

Am-My-Town-Norris.jpgRetired chartered surveyor Raymond Norris, 81, of Copperkins Lane, has lived in Amersham since 1965. Born in Berkhamsted, Mr Norris has travelled extensively particularly in the Far East.

Q: What do you think of Amersham?
A:
It is a marvellous place and has a tremendous amount going for it. It's location is very good. It is handy for London but we are still in the country.

Q: Is there anything you dislike about the town?
A:
It would be a good thing if the county council would get the roads repaired. It is not the fault of the district council who do a good job.

Q: What do you think of shopping in Amersham?
A:
Shopping is very patchy in Amersham. The restaurants and cafes are very good. We did not use to have these in Amersham on the Hill.
Old Amersham is a nice place. The shopping there is a nice mix.
Amersham on the Hill needs better shops. We need a decent greengrocers shop in Amersham on the Hill."

Q: What do you think of the decision to switch off the lights along Amersham Road?
A:
It is a pity.
I can understand the need to think about the environment.

Q: What about parking?
A:
I never find car parking a problem.
It is a subject for the Old Town. I think, for instance, that if a new multi-storey was provided for the Old Town it would have to be done incredibly sympathetically.

Q: What are your more detailed reflections about the Old Town?
A:
It is a very different kind of town to Amersham on the Hill. Old Amersham is a nice place. The shopping is quite different too. It is fine there.

We'd like to hear from you.
