Woman launches parking mission
A mother has launched a one woman parking protest after her daughter was penalised for not displaying a valid ticket when she left her car in Amersham.
Jennifer Shaw, 56, of Oakview, saw red when daughter Alison got penalised. Miss Shaw purchased a ticket but it got blown off the dashboard at the multi-storey car park in Amersham.
Furious Mrs Shaw viewed the district's insistence that the fine be paid as a matter of principle and she launched a personal initiative which she called Justice for Parkers.
Subsequently she lobbied commuters at Amersham Railway Station and received quite a degree of support and a host of e-mails backing her stance.
Miss Shaw's initial £20 fine now stands at £50 and despite further representations the bill could be set to go even higher before the matter is resolved.
Mrs Shaw said: "I do hope Alison's appeal can be reviewed and that common sense and understanding is given and that the council is able to withdraw this totally unjust penalty."
"The attitude that has been displayed to me, having been a resident of Chiltern District for the last 18 years, is appalling."
The Hyde Heath resident will probably make a formal representation and if this fails, take her case to an independent adjudicator, retained by the district.
Rachel Prance, a spokeswoman for the district, said: "Mrs Shaw has been in contact with us regarding the Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) her daughter received for failing to display her parking ticket.
"We have considered her case and do not feel that there are special circumstances which would allow us to cancel her PCN.
"There is a proper process for challenging PCN's and we operate a consistent approach to this which has been supported on appeal.
"We have recommended that Mrs Shaw makes a formal representation and if this is not successful, then she should appeal to the independent adjudicator."
