The next meeting of Little Chalfont Parish Council will take place on Tuesday, December 2 at the community library in Cokes Lane, 8pm start.
The parish council meets twice a month, always on a Tuesday, and the meetings comprise the regular monthly full jcouncil meeting as well as a session devoted to a consideration of planning applications.

Free parking in Cokes Lane

Christmas shoppers can park free of charge in the car park at Cokes Lane.
The concession, negotiated by the parish council, with the district councils, is applicable every Saturday in December, starting on Saturday, December 6, and covering the 13 and the 20.
Parish clerk Janet Mason said: "The district have been quite good about this and it should encourage people to do their festive shop locally."

HARVEY HALL, six: "Design and technology because we paint a lot and do drawings and make things. We make skeletons because that was our topic. They didn't come alive luckily."

OLIVIA HOPKINSON, six: "My favourite subject is art because we get to do lots of paintings and mix colours."
LUCY CARTER, six: "Art because we get to do lots of glittery things and make cards. We are going to make some Christmas cards."

Armed robbers raid BP garage

Gun-toting intruders grabbed a bundle of cash from a security man during an audacious daylight raid on a BP Garage in Amersham on Thursday (27/11).
Three offenders confronted the security man on the forecourt of the garage, in White Lion Road, at 3pm.
One offender threatened the man with a gun and grabbed a security bag, loaded with money, before making off in a waiting getaway car - a Silver Audi A6.
The alarm was raised at 3pm and the garage was shut from 3.15pm until 7pm as a total of 16 Thames Valley Police officers arrived on the scene.
DS Dave Brandon took charge of the investigation. He said: "I would urge anyone who saw anything to contact me at Amersham Police Station on 0845 8505 505."

Art exhibition

An art exhibition at Amersham Common Village Hall in White Lion Road proved a great success and featured the work of the 102-strong Beechwood Artists.
Spokeswoman Liz Grammenos (correct) said a total of 20 paintings had been sold. The Donald Walton Award was won by Zoe Preston for her picture of two goldfish, which she called Niskikigo, the Japanese for goldfish.
Another award went to John Tromans from Chalfont St Giles for his painting of Halnaker Windmill in Sussex.

Carol service

The annual town carol service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, at the church of St Michael and All Angels, Sycamore Road, Amersham on the Hill, 7.30pm.
Traditionally the retiring collection is donated to the mayor's chosen charity, which for this year is Contact The Elderly.
The choir of St Michael and All Angels will be joined by other community and school choirs and by The Amersham Band.
Readings will be given by members of local charitable groups from Amersham and there will be representatives of many organisations across the community in the congregation.

Spaces open up for cricketers

Cricket lovers take note! There are playing spaces available at the Barn Meadow in Old Amersham.
Anyone interested in arranging matches should know that available spaces exist for both Saturdays and Sundays.
These can be friendly fixtures or league games, to suit.

Countryside talk

Amersham people have been invited to a talk being given by Andy Sands from the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust.
Mr Sands will take his audience on a safari through the British countryside looking at birds, mammals and other forms of wildlife in their natural habitats.
The talk is being held at The Environment Centre, Molywell Mead, High Wycombe, on Friday, December 5, from 8-10pm. Admission: £3. Further information from John Hoar on 01494 676091.

Parking debate continues

Am-Alan-Carmady.jpgA revised blueprint is being drawn up by Chiltern District Council to take account of parking difficulties in Amersham Old Town.
The fresh initiative was unveiled on Thursday of last week at the district council's annual business meeting, which was attended by members of the recently reformed Old Amersham Business Association (OABA).
