Holmer Green WI evening

Posted by Emma Lindsey on Sep 29, 08 09:42 AM in Clubs/societies

The meeting opened with Christine Hobbs asking us to adjourn outside to the flagpole, where Ian Harvey from the parish council officially presented us with our new WI flag, which Margot Morton hoisted.
Mr Harvey took the chance to present Holmer Green 800th Centenary Plates to Merrin Molesworth, former mayor of Chesham, and Mr and Mrs Pocock for their support of the parish council.
Back in the hall we sang Jerusalem before Mrs Hobbs welcomed 55 members and Margaret Beale's sister-in-law on holiday from New Zealand. There were six apologies.

Mrs Hobbs presented Eileen Hodgeson with a cross-stitched picture to mark her 50 years as a member.
She thanked Bill and Marie Gilbey, John and Margaret Hearn and the rest of the committee for the catering at the August barbecue. She added it was disappointing that this year, yet again, we had to retreat indoors.
We were hoping for better weather on September 20 for our walking treasure hunt around the village to be followed by fish or chicken and chips supper.
Mrs Hobbs introduced our speaker, Jean Orford, whose talk was titled A Pocketful of Posies. She had a miscellany of amusing poems and sayings and a monologue finishing with a flower arrangement in a card.
Swimming restarted on September 3 at Woodrow.
Mini bridge and craft session dates were also announced.
Margaret Hearn was due to hold a Macmillan Coffee Morning a little early on Tuesday, September 23, but our walking group is away on the actual day. All proceeds go to Macmillan nurses.
The competition for a perfumed posy was won by Janine Rumble, second Jacquie Benge and third Janet Kemp.
Members were asked for their nominations for a new committee, our annual meeting will be held next month.

We'd like to hear from you.
