Chiltern District Council is getting ready to welcome the preparations for the London 2012 games.

To mark the handover from Beijing to London, the council, in partnership with Nexus Community, is hosting its own mini games on Thursday, August 28, at King George V Road, Amersham, from 10am to 2pm.

Young people aged between eight and 13 are invited to turn up and have a go at a range of sports and activities which it is hoped will whet their appetite to try something new and different.

All the activities are free, being run by fully qualified coaches and there is no need to book. Young people can just pop along at any time and join in running, long jump, golf, discus, cycling - bring your own bike, and take part in a football tournament.

The event will coincide with the raising of the Olympic flag at the front of the CDC offices where it will fly from August 28 until the close of the London Olympics in 2012.
The Olympic handover flag in Amersham will be one of 500 flags flying across the country on public buildings such as HM armed Forces, town hall and council offices.

Councillor Mimi Harker, cabinet member with responsibility for sports, said: "We are hoping that the 2012 Olympic Games will inspire young people to get involved in sports and have fun while doing it."

We'd like to hear from you.
