Twin towns reunited
A 14-strong party from Amersham's twin town of Bensheim in Germany visited this month.
Headed by Gerhard Buch, chairman of the Bensheim twinning group, the party spent several days in and around Amersham.
The German party, which included five young people, aged from eight to 16, arrived on July 10.
They attended a reception at the Old Barn Hall, attended by twinning stalwarts Tony Weedon and Mora Walker.
Mr Buch recalled that twinning between Amersham and Bensheim can be traced back to a game of football between the Pioneer scouts in Amersham and their German friends in 1964.
"The Germans lost both games, both in Amersham and in Germany, but what is more important is that we built this twinning link with Amersham which has borne fruit over many years."
The Amersham-Bensheim society was founded in 1978 to encourage and develop friendship and understanding between the two towns, following the formal twinning itself, which took place in 1977
