Tots win eco-award
Pupils at Chestnut Lane School in Amersham have have scooped a major award for an environmental project.
All 206 pupils on the roll, aged between four and seven, participated in the Green Flag Eco Scheme and their efforts won them the much cherished green flag.
At the outset an eco school committee was established and a programme of events drawn up, which included: bio-diversity, waste, re-cycling, energy, and a global perspective on environmental matters.
The children enjoyed outdoor lessons in which they planted a vegetable garden, planted trees, and re-cycled within school.
A rot zone was also established - to show pupils how things degrade over time, essentially simulating the effects of landfill.
"This project captivated the whole school community and was very productive," said Chestnut Lane spokeswoman Hazel Tyler.
The green flag was awarded under the auspices of Environmental Campaigns (ENCAMS), a UK registered charity which does much work in schools.
